Elyton Alabama
July 31 1866

Dear Sir
Over two months ago I wrote to you in relation to my appointment as Commissioner under the Civil Rights Bill. In reply, you kindly informed me that Judge Busteed was then holding court in Mobile, and that when he arrived in Montgomery you would cheerfully recommend me for the position.

Having had no information of my appointment, I would be thankful for your opinion as to what I may reasonably expect in regard to it.

Most Respectfully Yours
Thomas Haughey
