At the time that S S Slamana was controling the colony at this place the small-pox broke out among the freedmen. Slamana applyed to me, to send medical aid to the sick. I refused, as he did not have instructions to imploy a Physician & to be him that I would act provided he get instructions from a higher source be [[?]] to T.H. Mostyn who gave him instructions to imploy me or someone else to Physician the sick. I accepted his instructions to establish a pest house & as men are broken out & would send them to the north are we got through with about twenty cases. two dozen & [[?]] the sick in good faith, [[?]] and got through & acct up my bills made out in [[?]] [[?]] & [[?]] by Slamana & T.H. Mostyn. Two months for proper & three not leave from them, and believing that the money has been payed & issued between him      & [[strikethrough]] Greenville [[\strikethrough]] Montgomery Heretofore & have written him either to you. If you think & desire [[?]] for my services you will [[?]] a  great favor upon me by looking into this [[?]]. [[?]] I am
