Prairie Bluff, Wilcox Co., Ala.
May 11, 1866

Major General W. Swayne,
Asst. Com. State of Ala.:

General:

Allow me to inquire whether you would have occasion for my service or any proper work for me to do. If so, what would it be? and what would be my compensation?

I have been mustered out, few weeks ago, as Chaplain of the 86th U.S.C. Infty., and would be willing to continue to serve the colored population and country. I can produce the best of testimonials.

I would be happy to receive an early reply.

Yours, very respectfully &c.
