I was under necessity to inform you this morning by telegraph that the Six Gov. Mules belonging to the Bureau and under my Charge, were stolen last night. The circumstances connected with the affair are as follows
The last time I saw the mules was yesterday noon; I was pleased with their appearance and told my driver freedman "Edward", that I would endeavor to get a better set of harness for them; they were well secured, in a substantial build stable, with a strong padlock attached to the door. On several occasions Edward and also my servant Henry did inform me, of having seen suspicious carracters in the immediate vicinity of the stables; I provided them
