I have the honor to acknowledge Receipt of your letter of 21st inst. informing me that Rations have been increased to 1950 per diem in this District and beg leave to state, that in my opinion, as far as I have been able to judge, from facts obtained, 1500 rations per day for this District are sufficient to supply those enlisted, provided that these 1500 rations are actually sent here, which has not been the case in this month.
Of the 225 Barrels of Flour & Meal, due this month, (which is the most substantial and most needy article for food,) only 90 Barrels have been received; and of that lot, 10 Barrels were damaged, so as to be partly unfit to be issued as food for the people.
In the month of June Irish Potatoes and other vegetables will be ready for use and Wheat will be harvested within 10-12 days, which will be a help to several of the people, men entitled to Rations.
