then, thirty tons, more or less, of railroad iron at Fort Morgan and the real question is, to whom does it belong. I claim it as the property of the Bureau for these reasons:

I. Captain Brayton is wrong in his belief that the Confederates had no iron track at Fort Morgan There is abundant evidence that they had an iron track. General Granger tore up a portion of it and relaid it.

II. This property is not claimed by the Qr Mr's or any other Department except this Bureau. Col Wickersham, with whom Captain Brayton says he conversed about it, is now out of the service. His successor is Captain Jno C. Grierson A.Q.M. at Mobile to whom I addressed the note marked "D." His answer stating that he is not responsible for the iron in question appears in the true copy of his endorsement thereon.

In conclusion I would state that there is no doubt in my own mind that this property (which it will be seen, has no other claimant.) belongs to the Bureau; but I conceive that all I could do with regard to it has been accomplished. I respectfully refer the whole matter to your attention also respectfully requesting such action and instructions as you may deem necessary

Very Respectfully Your Obd't Servant
