Chamber Co. Ala. Jan 27th 1866

General Swayne,
Dear Sir: I have a wounded Freedman in my care, which I think you ought to do something for; he was shot in the knee on the 23rd December last, and has not walked a step since: and I think he will not be able to walk in 3 months to come. I have also a Widow Lady with 3 Girl children on my hands, in a destitute condition: the removed from Randolph County on the 1st of January to my house to keep from starving. Her name is Nancy Black, Robert Smith of Randolph knows her who I think is now in Montgomery. There are many other destitute Families in this County that needs immediate assistance or they must starve. Mr James Robinson Member of the Legislature knows me. Please write to me immediately. address Dr. John Watson
