given by the Code:- My lien is supported by a good consideration. it is the older lien of the two; and the Freedmen had notice of it, when they contracted, because the lien is created by law, and they are bound to take notice of it.
I apprehend that the Freedman's Bureau can with little show of reason, justice or authority, [[strikethrough]] can [[/strikethrough]] undertake to postpone my rights for the benefit of the Freedman; especially when I am no party to any contract with them; I had no notice of their claim; and when in fact; they had no rights, claims, or demand in the premises, at the time my lien was required.
May I ask the favor of you Sir, to give me your Official instruction of the rights involved. I will have left Cahaba before your reply can possibly reach here, and I must therefore beg you to write to me at Hayneville, to the care of Geo S. Cox. Jr.
