Sir:
I have the honor to report that I have completed the purchase of the Corn, and Bacon, in accordance with your orders.
Owing to the floods inundating the country and stopping the trains: it will be ten or twelve days before all the corn is delivered.
The corn for north Alabama will cost $1.00 per bushel delivered at Tuscumbia making it necessary for Col. Callis to receive it at that point, and reship by rail to Decatur, and Huntsville, I would not make a contract to have the supplies delivered at the above two points, except by-all rail-which would have increased the price delivered to about $1.38 per bush.
I anticipated that I would have got back before now, but the grade of Corn wanted, was not to be forced in sufficient quantity at every one place so as to have the order filled without
