La Fayette, Chambers County, Ala.
July 20, 1867

Rev. C. W. Buckley:
Dear Sir: I inclose to you a statement made to me by a reliable colored man in regard to the woman Henrietta, the the request that you will bring it to the notice of the military authorities.
Several freemen with large families, being very anxious to cultivate land of their own, have requested me to ascertain where they could get land under the U. S. Homestead Law, can you inform me in what counties of this state there is any public land subject to pre-emption and give me the address of the proper persons to apply to for more particular information in regard to such land in this state or in other states or territories?
