Lafayette August 12th 1867 R. L. Smith Sub Asst Comr Opelika Ala Sir I have this day revoked the letters of apprenticeship of Mary Ann and Moses children of Ellen Cole James M. Young consenting. Very Respectfully your obt servt Geo. Appleby Judge of Probate for Chambers Co. Ala Doctor Young requests me to say to you that at the time the children were apprenticed by him they had no one to care for them - that he received no letter from Mrs Hunicut and that [[strikethrough]] he directed [[/strikethrough]] Sampson (the Father) when he called for them was not threatened with violence unless he attempted to force or decoy them off - but that he could get them if legally entitled. I advised him to let Mary Ann stay with him until her parents called for her. Moses he states left his premises last May and has no knowledge of his whereabouts. Geo. Appleby
