The family of said Hawkins to pass [[strikethrough]] into [[/strikethrough]] through the Federal [[strikethrough]] Rebel [[/strikethrough]] lines; that said Hawkins on his part represented that he could procure from the Rebel Commander of the Department necessary passports &c. and that he would see Petitioner family safely through the Rebel lines that [[strikethrough]] so [[/strikethrough]] soon after your Petitioner received the Deed from Said Hawkins to the 1382 acres of land he went to the place, and found to his surprise that all of the buildings of any importance had been burned since time before the sale - that the fences had been destroyed - that but little stock of any kind was at the place - That the Land was not of the character represented, poor & inferior to what was represented - That the place was not in that high state of cultivation represented - That a great fraud had been practiced upon your Petitioner in the many false & fraudulent representations made by said Hawkins to Petitioner, That he sent word to Hawkins by his wife Mrs Hawkins, that the place was not such as represented, and that your Petitioner would not abide by the Exchange - Your Petition desiring to perform fully all he promised, proceded to accompany Mrs. Hawkins [[strikethrough]] through [[/strikethrough]] to the Rebel lines & procured for her permits from the Federal authorities for her, family & such
