Pine Level Ala May 13, 1867

Dear sir,
Your communications of 4th May inst notifying me to report at your office is just received- this delay results from want of mail facilities and my absence most of last week. I regret that I did not receive it at an earlier day as I was in Montgomery from Tuesday evening until Saturday evening of last week and have just returned in delicate health and so much fatigued from my recent trip that I am scarcely able to return to Montgomery immediately and beg your indulgence for a few days say [[strikethrough]] say [[/strikethrough]] the latter part of this week.
 
I will state that I was entirely ignorant of any repeal whatever of the vagrant law of the state at the time of the conviction and committal alluded to and knew nothing of it until notice was given in one of your orders.
 
If the repeal of these laws was published in the city papers I failed to discover that fact.  Our mail
