Dear Sir.-

Last spring (1866) the small pox broke out in this community. The Commissioners Court of Russell Co. appointed a Committee at this place to take the matter in hand & employ nurses &c. By this Committee I was employed to take charge of the small pox hospital established by them about one mile from this place. (I mean to take charge as a nurse.) This was a very busy time, and I left my crop & remained with the sick of this establishment day & night for more than a month. The cases recd &
