Sir,

I have a large supply of Corn on hand and also about 19,000# of Bacon. This stuff came to hand about the 20th of Aug. or a few days previous to that time. The Corn and Bacon I have in store and from an intimation from you by letter, during General Swayne's absence, I was led to believe, some order would be issued on his return for its final disposition. Fearing that an order might have been sent and miscarried, I again call your attention to the matter. The people of the country do not need it as the crops have so far matured, as to amply provide for the destitute, with the reception of some few extreme cases of very old and decrepit freed peoples who cannot work. My impression is at this time favorable to a sale of the stock on hand as the corn is very much injured, and was so billed to me at Mobile - it will not improve, and might now be sold for a price, above what corn can be bought for in two months from this time.

May I hope to hear from you on this point at an early day.

Very respectfully
Jno B Callis
