Sir-
To-day I have been informed that you were the proper Officer for Freedman in Russell County Alabama to apply to, for a Divorse and I now, therefore write you relative to, or in behalf of a Freedman named Joshua Moore and a Freed-woman to whom he was last spring, Legally married obtaining a License (named Dici Ann)

The facts are these a short time after marriage his wife was found to be "receiving" and gave birth to a child a few months after Joshua's first acquaintance with her, which state of affairs greatly enraged Joshua besides he found Dici Ann was a very profane, wicked woman of a terrible temper & finally to complete his disappointment and misery, to him untrue - Joshua raved and wept & was completely unfit for service & finally declared he could not,& would not, be with
