I have been here yesterday and To day attending to the matter of Lewis Curlee (colored) vs. J.M. Speer as the attorney of said Curlee, Thomas Williams & B T Cousins are employed in the defence - yesterday morning when the case was opened I was grosly insulted by Thomas Williams in his opening remarke, he stated To the Court and to the bystanders that in making my petition To you for redress in this case that [[strikethrough]] I as [[/strikethrough]] the petitioner had brought reproach upon the people of Elmore County and suggested that I submit the matter To be adjudicated before Judge Ready - you will see at once that his intentions were to prejudice the community against me and I am Satisfied that he affected his purpose -  Straw tells which way the wind blows and with the exception of one or two persons in Wetumpka that every citizen is against me except those who belong To the Republican party, I am further satisfied that the entire bar of Lawyers of
