Sir

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 18th January Inst. in reference to the apprenticing of a minor named Joseph to A.W. Hurst, of this county.

The information received by you was incorrect, as to one of the facts, of the case. The mother was regularly notified of the day upon which the application was to be heard, but failed to attend, and show her ability to support the child; and then let the case go by default, so far as she was concerned.

From the proof made before me by the applicant, I was led to believe that the mother was unable to support her children.
