Messrs. Davis, Hall & Co,
Mobile, Ala

Gentlemen;
You ship & sell as much, or more corn than any house here: Please inform me if there is not a large quantity of corn recently arrived, and still arriving, which has been seriously damaged in coming from the west down the Miss. River, - in New Orleans - and across the Bay. Which was caused by the long wet spell, in producing sweat, heat & mould. Please state what quantity of the corn has been thus damaged & oblige.

Sir
In answer to your inquiry would state that the greater part of the corn arriving in New Orleans via Miss. River, during the past three or four weeks has been more or less damaged by sweat and mould, caused by having been shelled while frosted, and then transported to a warm, wet climate, under circumstances more than usually unfavorable: - a result which no care in transportation could prevent.
Yours, &c,
(signed) Davis, Hall, & Co.

I concur in above -
