I have just returned from Gadsden. I find in the Warehouse of Hollingsworth & Moryane 54 Boxes Hd Bread, and 8 BBls of Pork. The Hd Bread is in (Very Bad order)

I called on Mr. Edwards who was Agent for DeKalb County at the time these rations were shipped & he says he only received 199 Boxes Hd Bread. You will see by the letter from Lt Midler to Mr Edwards which I enclose herewith that there was 288 Boxes Hd Bread shipped. This leaves 35 Boxes of Hd Bread short which Hollingsworth and Moryan claim they delivered but they have no receipt for it and Mr. Edwards says he never received it. The amount of Pork received by Mr Edwards together with the 8 Bbls on hand and the 2 Bbls which H & M acknowledge lost make the amount shipped. These rations would have been rec'd by Mr Edwards and issued but Hollingsworth and Moryane refused to let him have any more until the freight was paid and they refuse to let me have them on the same grounds. The charges for transportation are rather steep but are in accordance with the established rates on that route at the time they were Shipped. I knew nothing of these rations being at Gadsden until I received these papers
