Now sir I write to ask you to interfere & have this case dismissed if you possibly can I ask it in consideration of his poor widowed mother, & his youth innocence. The guilty have escaped & he is left to bear the effects of their sins. I am a native of New York, lived here many years known the boy & his family well, & I do feel that justice demands his release The family have solicited me, in as much as I am a northerner, to beg you to release him, that is to use your influence for his release. They know that I know all about it, & they feel that if you knew the same & had the power you would bid him go free
Now Gen Swayne, in consideration of his want of means, to defend himself. In consideration of his youth & innocence. In consideration of his poor widowed mother, I beg you, I beseech you to interfere in his behalf if you possibly can & have him released
