Colonel
Yours of the 5 inst is at hand. I regret exceedingly that my official acts should meet with your disapproval. Your letter of the 26th inst was received in my office the day after I had forwarded said forms 2 and 15 QM Dept immediately upon the receipt of your communication I dispensed with the service of Henry Bingham as Clerk. The $4.00/00 pr day for on mule will not seem exorbant when properly explained, owing to the scarcity of horses and mules in this locality their service command a high price. I obtained this mule upon the condition that I would board the animal, which costs $2.50/100 pr day while travelling. I obtained the mule at $2.00/00 pr day; to avoid multiplying papers and accounts, I made the charge all in one account, to prevent it from appearing large I made it below the actual amount. Enclosed please find blank No. 22 duly signed, which I trust, if consistent you will fill up for such an amount as your opinion may justify. I will make the remaining amount good
