Colonel,
In reply to yours of the 20th inst., directing me to turn over to Dr. King [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] one Desk & one horse shipped to me on requisition from him some time since. I would respectfully state that the U.S. horse which arrived first at this place I assigned to Dr King which he has used untill Septbr 12th, when I from a sense of duty directed that said horse be kept in Government stable at this place untill proper use or disposition could be made of him
The desk I have in use in my office. Dr King having a very superior desk in his office and one standing idle that he did not move when he went to the Hospital. If you desire I will give you the particulars of my prohibiting Dr. King from riding the horse. I presume you are aware that from necessity Dr. King took board in the hospital, the ambulance goes to and from the hospital in answer to all calls, and while my action was prompted by a sense of duty I kept in view every requirement. In May last I proposed to the Surgeon in Chief District of Alabama to furnish affidavits of Mr. A. Bengham U.S. Commssr and my Clerk Mr Wilda to the effect that Dr. King had knowingly communicated a base falsehood to him Surg. in Chief. I stated and furnished affidavit to Surg in Chf. that Dr King's conduct was such that he was expelled from the hotel as a boarder and could not obtain board with any family in this place: he was constantly disgracefull drunk, frequently lay in the
