Tuscaloosa, Ala. Feby 9.67

Peck Wm. H. H.
Capt. Vet. Res. Corps
Asst. Supt.

States that communications of the 1st inst. relative to the abandonment of the Bureau station at Tuscaloosa and the salary of J.C. Peck are received. That communications of the 4" or yet 23" ults have not been rec'd - that it would be well to have a Bureau agent to uphold Magistrates in the discharge of their duties; That probably a U.S. Commissioner would answer the same purpose - that freedmen have been instructed to apply to Magistrates for Justice with fair results. Think large numbers of this class of people have left the section on account of ill treatment from Employers - That the latter begin to realize the situation and act whose this little conditions could - and that there are no reasons why this station should not be abandoned, unless with in it so construed.
