Tuskegee February 4th 1867

Dear Sir
We desire to make a statement of facts to you. When the colored people who used to be our slaves, had all left us, There was a little mulato boy named Bob, about 7 years of age whose mother belonged to us and died at our house. No one appearing to take him we concluded to apprentice him. 
Accordingly made application to the Judge of Probate for Macon County and the Court bound him to us upon the conditions made in the Law for such cases. No one come in to contest our right to do so, recently his Grand Mother, on his Mother's side has demanded him of us simply not having taken any legal steps to obtain him. The little boy Bob, is anxious to remain with us. We want to do right in the premises.
We have so far, complied with out obligations in caring for, educating &c and intend to do justice to Bob, we will state that we know the Grand Mother to be in a destitute condition She is 70 odd years old Wholy unable to care for herself and
