Feb. 13 1867

John Gordon (Freedman) vs. David Gordon
Lowndes Co. Ala

Complaint- That David Gordon in company with Charlie Keys, Mr. Kane and Mr. [[State?]] (in Buggy) & overseer, assaulted him with the intention of killing him so Gordon said, - Gordon struck him first with a loaded whip butt and afterward with a stick, failing in this he called for an axe. Charles Keys went to hunt an axe but did not find one Gordon after ward called for a Gun

Complainant escaped from there before he got the gun and took to the swamp and came immediately for this city.

This affray happened Monday morning the 11th of February.

Complainant states that he went from Col. Waddills to Mr Gordons to collect money due Gordon for service of his stallion that he had in charge some time before never had any difficulty with Mr. Gordon before and had always been trusted by him. Gordon had lost his keys that morning a he said that John had stolen them.
