Head-Quarters, District of Alabama.
Montgomery, Ala. June 10" 1867

Maj Gen O.O. Howard.
Commissioner to
Washington D.C.

General
I have the honor to request that authority may be granted to me to purchase for the use of the Bureau a Printing Press, Size no 3, as per enclosed circular price $425.00. The press heretofore used is a very old one, much out of repair, and will soon be utterly useless. It was originally used by the military and turned over by them to my quartermaster on the muster-out of the volunteer troops here. By the use of this new press the services of our assistants at $25 per month can be dispensed with and a better character of work turned out.

A small additional amount of type will also be required, the cost of which will not exceed $25.00. The total cost of press and type landed here will not exceed $500.00.
