Office Sub Asst Comr BRF & AL
Dist Nor Ala. Huntsville Oct 12th 1867.

Respectfully returned to O.D. Kinsman Sub Asst Comr Montgomery Ala. with information that the property of Mr Sultzner at Athens Ala. was turned over to me as confiscable & abandoned property, and has been so carried on my returns, and has been used by the Freedmens Aid Commission of Cincinnati, O. through Miss M F. Wells, for a Freedmens School House. The Bureau has made many improvements in fences and on the House, to make it tenable. The property has been advertised for sale by the Sheriff of Limestone County on execution but on receiving notice from me that it was held by the Gov't as above, the sale I think was postponed.

I am advised that Miss Wells expects to use it the ensuing year for a Freedmens Scholl Subject however to orders from the U.S. Authorities.

The improvements and care of property in my Judgement is a fair compensation for use of building so far.
