General
I have the honor, respectly to submit the following statement for your favorable consideration:
In July 1865. C. W. Buckley esqr. then acting Asst. Commissioner for the District of Ala. contracted with the undersigned to take charge of a Freedman's Hospital in this city with a salary of one hundred and fifty dollars per month, to date from my muster out, which was to take place at St. Louis Mo. It was further stipulated that Mr. Buckley would furnish, or cause to be furnished me with transportation to Montgomery Ala. which transportation was furnished me in kind, by order of Maj. Genl. Slocum, com'd'g District of Miss. on the strength of my contract, at the expiration of said contract another one was entered into between Surg. Ch'f Kipp, Surg. in Chief and the undersigned, this contract also entitles the undersigned to transportation in kind. I would respectfully ask in view of said contracts, that transportation be furnished me back to St. Louis, or equidistant rout to New York.
