In compliance with instructions from Asst Commsr State of Ala., Feby 28, proceeded to Pollard, Ala and investigates condition of Freed. People of Conecuh County and makes the within Report. E and M 614 S of A 1868 State of Alabama, Bureau R. F. and A. L. Montgomery Mar 6, 1868. Respectfully referred to S. S. Gardner Sub Asst Commissioner at Greenville Ala. Sub Dist of Greenvile B.R.F. & Greenville Ala. Mch. 10 '68 Respectfully returned with the following remarks and recommendation. I have no means of ascertaining personally the amount or (over) nature of destitution in Conecuh the present season but have no reason to discredit or qualify the statements made in Col. Arthur's report. I would most heartily join in recommending Hon, A W Jones as an agent for distributing whatever supplies may be forwarded.
