Montgomery Ala,
April 30, 1868.

Maj. Gen. O. O. Howard.
Commissioner &c
Washington, D.C.

Sir:
I have the honor to request that, on the revocation of my appointment as clerk in the Bureau R.F. & A.L. State of Alabama. I be furnished transportation, from Montgomery. Ala; to my home at Fort Dodge Iowa.

I was employed in the Bureau in April 1866, by Col. C. Cadle Jr. A.A.G. and in a verbal contract with that gentleman it was stipulated, that on my resignation I should be furnished transportation to my residence.

Two other clerks, Washington Cull and George O'Reilly, employed about that time, have since been transported to their homes by the Bureau.
