Sir: 

I have the honor to submit the following report of my action under Special Order No. 41 dated Montgomery, April 22, 1868.

Although Greenville and Garland were not reviewed in said order, yet in verbal instructions required me to visit these places, I obeyed such instructions.

At Greenville the only complaint which I could make was a carelessness in transmitting papers. Either through the oversight of the Clerk in Sub Ass't. Com. and perhaps both, very frequent errors or omissions occur in papers sent from that office. I gave both Mr. Gardner and his Clerk such a lecture as I hope will, in the future, prevent so much complaint for this cause. With the other operations of Mr. Gardner I was very well satisfied.
