Bureau Refugees and Freedmen
Mobile Ala July 14/68

Respectfully forwarded to the Asst Comm. The tax collection report the sum of $2000 - as the amt collected of the Colored tax payers of Mobile. (Report forwarded)
The School board desire the approval of the state and District military authorities merely because it might be alleged that their laws only give their authority to appropriate money to their established schools which are exclusively for whites. They recognize the justice of an appropriation alike to colored schools, but, to keep inside of any possible construction of the law, they request approval; which it is hoped will be granted while the authority of the military continues.
