Dear Sir-

Though I have been home but one day, there have been two or three complaints pertaining to freedmen's affairs submitted to me for information. The distance to Opelika is so great -about 45 miles- that the freedmen suffer injury rather than walk there.
My arrangements are such that I could take the Agency for this (Randolph) County at a salary of $75.00 per month. I think there should be an agent for this County. I would suggest that Col. Smith be consulted, however, as this County is within his Sub. Dist. I drop you this private note, merely to call your attention to the necessity for an agent here, which is greater than I expected, till I came home. I will write you more fully when I have time.
Very respectfully, &c,
H. C. Connelly.
