Sir I was appointed agent Bureau R.F. & A.L. for Winston County on the 20th February 1866 and received my certificate of appointment by Bt. Brig. Gen. John B. Callis and Sub Asst Commissioner Northern District Huntsville Ala, and rendered faithfully service untill the first day of October 1867, at which time Maj. Gen John Pope issued and order to discontinue the agents of the Bureau in the third military district composed of Georgia Alabama and Florida. I was a citizen agent appointed as aforesaid and have taken all the oaths of office required by law and has never received a dollar for all my service, for nearly twenty months, why is it that I can not get pay for my service, will you please answer me, if it will not be asking to much of you, and oblige
