Bureau RF & A.L.
Grenville Ala. May 21st 1868

Capt. G. K. Sanderson
A.A.A. Gen'l.

Captain

I have the honor to state that information has been received at this office in regard to one of the cases reported in a communication from this office, dated May 9th and numbered (2) in the list, that of Gen. B. McLellan, accused of wantonly stabbing a colored man at Pollard, nearly causing his death and disabling him up to the present time. The case was tried by Judge Henderson of Conecuh Co. and McLellan was acquitted. I have heard of this case from disinterested parties, and the expression of opinion is unanimous that it was a cruel and unprovoked outrage.

Very Respectfully
Your Obd't Servt,
Sam'l S. Gardner
Sub Asst Comm's.
