Sir, 
I have the honor to report that in a conference with Lieut A. S. Bennett late sub asst Comr at Claiborne, the Lieutenant stated his opinion that the business of the Bureau of that point was not sufficient to benefit the Freedmen to the amount of our agents salary and office rent. The chief duty of his office was the referring complaints of the needless apprenticeship of minors to the Probate Judge for settlement under G.O. No 4. 
Of course now that Military law ceases even this duty will decrease, or go into the hands of lawyers. 
In this office the force consists of one clerk at $100 per mo, Messenger $20 per mo, and laborer at $16 per mo. The messenger and laborers duties might be performed by one person. 
In Baldwin County the agent is not doing much, and will do less now that civil law prevails, in the way of claims and
