The State of Alabama
Chambers County

Personally appeared before R.T. Smith Sub Asst Comm'r
of the Sub Dist of Opelika Bureau R.F. & A.L. Richard Nunn (Col'd) who after being duly sworn says on oath that on
that night of the 22nd Feby 1868. three armed men forcibly entered his house, took and carried away his gun and ammunition; that said party pretended to be acting under orders to take guns ammunition &c from all Freedmen in whose possession they might be found.

Affiant further says that about the month of Dec. 1867. one Austin Rutland and Zach Easters assaulted, beat, maltreated and otherwise abused Susan Bosh a Freed woman, at Echelberger's Mill in Chambers Co. — Affiant further says that as a general rule, the Freedpeople are afraid to make known publicly the abuses that they receive from some
white men who are notorious for their abuse of the Freedpeople
