In reply to, and defense against, the charges preferred against me by the Lieut EB Savage of this Military Post. I have the honor to state that as a Clerk of the Bureau Department, I am alone amenable to said Department for any dereliction in the discharge of my Clerical duties and that for any violation of the municipal law I am triable and punishable by the civil authorities, and that Lieut Savage has no control or jurisdiction over my conduct. Thus promising I positively deny that I am culpable in either instance, and in support of my negative herewith respectfully submit for your consideration testimonials or certificates from respectable and reliable gentlemen both soldiers and citizens.  That I was on one occasion within the referenced
