avoid us, another car simultaneously, head on. He was legally in the wrong, of course. He had caused several hundreds' worth of damage to the other car, but he only tweaked our already beat-up back bumper. At any rate, we all got out. It was at once apparent that he had liquor on his breath, & he was naturally very eager to settle in everyone's favor. We were to submit our claim, which we did: for $30. His insurance company paid very promptly. We were able by judicious buyers of used parts to get a new rear bunker & also a slightly used, new-type front bumper for only $20 more than we received in claim money. Jack had been wanting a new-type high front bumper for a long time. Jack put all these parts on & we now have a greatly improved car -- a very lucky accident, I must say!

Frauenfelder gets back this Friday, so perhaps life will soon change. Now Jack is learning all about his apparatus & studying German. He hopes to pass the German proficiency in two weeks & drop the German course. His salary here is higher than last year (all were raised). We get about $200/month instead of $170. There'll be less Q.I. Bill money at only 2 courses, however, & rent is up.

Love,
