superior teacher, and he would be very glad to have her brought into the field.

We very much need a few teachers - one at least in each group of schools of commanding talent and skill  There are thousands of excellent young ladies personally, who make tame, matter of fact, middling sort of teachers. But the North has, in her best schools, another class, who by gifts of nature, or professional training, or long experience, or all together stand above this dead level, who, in short, are first rate teachers. Cannot we have two or three such in Richmond, bearing your commission? These generally have to be looked after and invited in order to be procured because they "can't be spared at home". The middling sort, such as we have had, are very acceptable for a part, but not for all.
