Rev. Lyman Abbott Gen Sec

Dear Sir:
Our schools are opening very prosperously, and the High School seems to be a greater necessity than ever. How stand the case in New York? Is the sum you voted still available? Is anything more to be hoped for? The colored Masonic Fraternity — made up of the very lost men the city — ask on what terms they may put a third story under our roof and own it (the 3d story) for their own uses. Gen Brown sees no objection to the alliance. I see none and think it may be made useful. What think you on the subject and as to the terms.

In Haste Very Resp'y
R.M. Manly

Three quarters of the applications from Bureau officers for teachers, outside the cities, call for colored teachers.
