Your letter of April 25th is received. You are mistaken in supposing that the Government pays the wages of teachers. It has never done so and is not at liberty to do so by law. The teachers are supported by various churches and charitable societies at the North; but they are not able to support any more at present for want of funds. I am sorry that I am not able to help you
