my first work is to try to find some association who will agree to send out and support a teacher. I have endeavored to do this for you. The New York Freedmens Union Commission have agreed to send a teacher in October if they can. Now the whole matter depends very much upon yourselves. Since it is impossible for these societies to send one fourth part of the teachers that are asked for, they feel obliged to send them to those who can do most to aid in their support.
Please take the following steps and write to me at once.

1st Ascertain how much can be collected per month (in the way of tuition or otherwise, toward the support of a teacher. How much can positively be relied upon!

2d Can you provide a suitable boarding place for a white young lady teacher, and what will be the expense?

3d What is the least sum you will require from the Bureau to complete the school-house?

The best will be done for you that can be done--

Very respectfully yours &c
