Mr. Franklin Wood
Dear Sir:
Yours dated yesterday, asking assistance in procuring books is recd
The Bureau has no school books, never has furnished any to schools, and will not in the future. When schools were first introduced a good many books were given away by the Northern associations having charge of the schools. Very few were given away last year, and it is to be hoped that none at all will be (except in a very few extreme cases) in the year to come. The necessary exertion and money required for the purchase of a book is as valuable a part of education as the knowledge of what is contained in the book
Very Respectfully Yours
