With respect to this [[?]] portion of your [[?]]- relating to the employment of colored teachers in your Richmond schools, you do not wish me to echo your sentiments [[?]], in way [[?]].
They are [[sound?]]. If you understand this qualifications of the advanced pupils in our High and [[?]] school [[?]], and the condition and wants of your [[?]] schools have you would see as clearly as I do that while two lowers schools (Miss [[?]] and Miss Pringer) migh will be provided for in that way. while I could be absurd to put any colored pupils we have got into Miss Jones' and Miss Porkess' schools as their [[?]]. Our advanced pupils might [[?]], tolerably well, the lowest grades of primary schools,- they cannot at present go higher, without waste of money and damage to them and to the schools.

Yours of the 2d ivst. is this morning read. I shall be very glad indeed to have you come to Virginia, if suitable and satisfactory arrangements can be made. Of course the best places for Normal schools are those where good schools have been maintained for the last few years, and there are generally the places for which permanent provision has already been made. Richmond is fully provided with schools of all grades up the Normal for which we have an admirable building, the school has been in operation one year and teachers engaged for the next year. Lynchburg has been supplied with primary schools for three years by the Pa. Branch, Freedman Union Commission [["?]]. The best way, it leaves to me to approach the subject of a normal school there would be through that association, as they could entirely control this [[lower?]]
