Dear Sir:

I shall be glad to extend the Peabody aid to the Andersons school, from Nov. 1, and forward you blank forms to be filled out in duplicate for that purpose. On receiving them signed by the teachers I will forward the funds by letter to you or as you direct.

I will try to procure some S.S.Books; am expecting to receive in a few days, some school books to go with the Peabody money, and will send some to your order. These will be spellers, primary reader, primary Geog. and Primary Arith.

December 1868

W.R. Morse. S.A. Com.

Sir:

Gen. Brown does not approve of your coming down now. He does not believe that Cabell can hold the building or stay the sale or removal of it. He also wishes you to inform Cabells Agt. that the Bureau claims and will remove the building. If, however, they prefer to sell the land at its value, and the other lot (recently purchased for the school) can be sold to aid in paying for it; the building might be reconstructed where it is.

Can places be rented where the schools can be accommodated during the removal or reconstruction?

You may say to Mr. Cabell that Gen. Stoneman refuses to act on his application and has referred it to Genl. Brown. A promise of the Confederate Govt will not be held as valid or binding either by Genl. Stoneman or Genl. Brown.

You have been recommended as one of the four Asst. Supts. of Schools.
