I understand that Miss lardner was not pleased with the plan because it did not provide living rooms for the teachers and perhaps for other reasons. Of course if such accommodations are to be furnished the building must be larger and the expense greater - unless fewer schools are provided for.
I can do nothing further about the matter until
the desired plan of building is furnished, and the
necessary means secured (in addition to the $600).
It is for you and not for me to say how and
when this shall be done.
The colored people doubtless are "eager to have a new
building" and will make liberal "promises to work for it"; but I presume you know that those promises are of very little account.
Any changes in the board of trustees will be entirely acceptable to me. Judge Rines is a lawyer and will know how it can be legally done, which I do not. Let them arrange that.
The sooner the plan and sinews of war are provided the better, so that the building may be completed in season.

P.S. I should hope to get somewhat more favorable propositions than the one made; but probably not much.
