Your favor of yesterday is at hand. All the old records of the Bureau are in the Archives at Washington, and the desired information cannot be obtained here. Maj. White has gone. Only his chief clerk remains, and he only remembers that the matter was settled by the payment of a liberal allowance. I thank you for writing.
