Mr. E.D. Cheney

Miss Crackers of the 11th is rec'd.

I have just returned from Charlottesville - have a full understanding with Mr. Abell. The work will go forward without delay or hindrance and he funds forwarded as soon as wanted. I like the plan of the building: made a few practical suggestions in regard to details of finish &c. which Mr. A. was glad of.

I will be at 8 studio at 11 A.M. the 28th and shall be glad to meet Mrs. Lane or any others of the Com. There are several important topics - The Normal School - The Peabod Fund for country schools - Richmond affairs - Gordonsville Affairs &c. - which I hoped to have arranged and understood.

The Normal School certainly requires, as you suggest, at least one teacher, fresh fro the Normal Schools of Mass. and she should be best class, a fine scholar, a true lady, with as much character and skill as to make her mark. I hope you will take active measures to hunt up one or two or three such teachers as that school requires, not positively engaging them until I have canvassed their merits, in behalf of the Board of Directors of the Institution.
